Antony’s goal was his first in the Premier League since October 9th. Antony made Manchester United go up to third in the standings by scoring one and helping out with another goal. Later, Diogo Dalot scored the second goal for United 14 minutes before the end. Nottingham Forest had an opportunity to get out of last place but lost it due to this game.
Manchester United won their match, which means they are three points ahead of the fourth-place team, Newcastle United and six points higher than fifth-place Tottenham Hotspur who have played more games.
Forest, who could become 3 points from being out of the bottom three with a win stayed at 17th place which is still in the bottom three but on goal difference.
Nottingham Forest lost to Man United 2-0 in their match. After the result, Ten Hag, the manager of Nottingham Forest, said he originally had nine players defending, but now only has four left standing.
Christian Eriksen Secures Victory for Manchester United
Antony was really good, but Christian Eriksen made a huge difference for United.
Christian played his first match since hurting his ankle back in January, replacing Marcel Sabitzer who hurt his groin during the warm-up.
Erik ten Hag, the Manchester United manager said “Sabitzer felt something, we decided not to take chances and we’ll find out tomorrow what happened”.
Having Christian Eriksen available on the bench was definitely a plus for Manchester United. With Bruno Fernandes, he helped the team have control over the first half and create more chances to score like Jadon Sancho had early on. Forest almost made it to the full time whistle after Antony had scored, but only due to some great goalkeeping from Navas and missing their shots. On top of that, Fernandes also missed his free header close to halftime and then again saw his curling shot denied by Navas when they came back.
United won the game thanks to Dalot’s first Premier League goal, which was a great way for them to make up for their last disappointing 2-2 draw with Sevilla. Ten Hag said it was an “solid win” and that they were “really focused and concentrated from start to finish.” Next, United will have another match against Sevilla in the quarter-finals of the Europa League on Thursday, followed by a semi-final FA Cup game against Brighton on Sunday.
Forest Manager Cooper Confirms Need to Turn Performances Into Wins
Forest manager Steve Cooper said that his team must start getting wins again soon. They haven’t won any of their last 10 Premier League games and were 13th the last time they did win, which was on February 5th when they beat Leeds United 1-0. Cooper told SportNewsCenter Match of the Day that they understand they need to turn their performances into results.
“People are paying a lot of attention to us because of how low our rank is and it’s almost the end of the season.” Taiwo Awoniyi had some opportunities in the first half, but his attempts were blocked by Aaron Wan-Bissaka and another just missed the target.
Forest had a chance to get a penalty kick in the 19th minute when one of United’s defenders – Harry Maguire – touched the ball with his arm while defending an in-swinging corner. But, interestingly, the referee and Video Assistant Referee disagreed and didn’t accept that it was a penalty.
Cooper said he believes it really WAS a penalty, plus a yellow card too! He wasn’t happy because he thinks VAR should be better at their job to catch these important calls at such high level of game.
The team called United scored the first goal thanks to Felipe’s header in the 73rd minute. However, Forest did not have a very good match and their own fans were not pleased with the performance. On Saturday, they have an important game against Liverpool where they hope to finally pick up some wins!
