British Success at Monte Carlo Masters: Jack Draper Through, Cameron Norrie Out in First Round

by admin

Cameron Norrie was not able to win against Francisco Cerundolo in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters. Meanwhile, fellow British Jack Draper made a successful comeback as he beat Sebastian Baez from Argentina with a 6-3 7-5 win. And now, 21-year-old Jack Draper is set to face tenth seed Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in the second round.

Last month, Draper had to retire from a match against the world’s number two tennis player Carlos Alcaraz because of an abdominal injury. He chose to not take part in the Miami Open tournament as he feared it would make his issue worse.

Draper pushed himself hard during the match with Baez but was able to save 11 out of 12 opportunities for his opponent to break him, while only losing one of his 4 chances.

Norrie was not playing well throughout and kept making 18 mistakes that did not help him win despite having only 8 successful shots.

Juan Manuel Cerundolo, who is ranked 33rd in the world, won a key point at the second set when his opponent Cameron Norrie missed his forehand. Norrie started this season well with 21 wins out of 25 matches, but unfortunately he couldn’t continue this streak as he was defeated by Gregoire Barrere from France on his opening match at the Miami Open last month. On Monday afternoon, Andy Murray who has won three Grand Slams will compete against Alex de Minaur from Australia.
