In the 2022-23 season, Axel Disasi participated in 49 games across all Monaco competitions.
Chelsea has welcomed the French international defender, Axel Disasi, to its team, signing him on from Monaco in a deal worth 45m euros (£38.57m) that spans six years.
At 25 years old, Disasi brings an added layer of defence to Stamford Bridge, a necessary step following Wesley Fofana’s significant knee injury.
Disasi appeared in every one of Monaco’s Ligue 1 matches in the previous season.
Expressing his pride and excitement, Disasi shared with Chelsea’s website, “Joining this incredible family is a true honor. I aim to reach monumental heights here, to secure victories, and I am dedicated to realizing these goals. I am filled with ambition.”
Simultaneously, Chelsea has settled on a fee with Brighton for goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, although several offers for his fellow player Moises Caicedo have been declined by the Seagulls.
Having appeared four times representing France, including a substitute role in the 2022 World Cup final match where they were defeated by Argentina, Disasi has also made 129 appearances for Monaco after he joined them from Stade de Reims in August 2020.
Joining the ranks as Chelsea’s sixth summer signing, after Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Lesley Ugochukwu, Angelo Gabriel, and Diego Moreira, Disasi’s arrival signifies new manager Mauricio Pochettino’s ongoing efforts to reshape the squad.
Disasi is set to vie for a starting position alongside fellow central defenders Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah, and Levi Colwill, who signed a fresh contract on 2nd August. Meanwhile, his countryman Benoit Badiashile is slated to miss the start of the Premier League season due to a hamstring injury, and Fofana is likely to remain out of play for a number of months after injuring his anterior cruciate ligament.
Sharing his eagerness to engage with the fanbase, Disasi said, “I’m looking forward to experiencing the electrifying energy from the fans. The passion of Premier League supporters, the thrilling ambiance, and the match intensity are all aspects that I find exhilarating.”
