Programme offers tailored support and specialist expertise in women’s football to all 211 MAs
Over 80 women’s football projects across nearly 50 member associations delivered in first 12 months
FIFA celebrates an important milestone for women’s football today as the FIFA Women’s Development Programme celebrates its one-year anniversary since its launch.
As part of FIFA’s commitment to accelerating the growth and development of the women’s game, including its aim to have 60 million women and girls playing football by 2026, the FIFA Women’s Development Programme provides all 211-member associations with an opportunity to access additional resources, equipment and specialist technical expertise dedicated to women’s football.
Over the last 12 months, the programme has made important strides to help develop the women’s game, despite the ongoing impact on football from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following the launch last year, alongside the ongoing support being provided via FIFA Forward and the COVID-19 Relief Plan, over 80 dedicated women’s football projects have now been delivered via the FIFA Women’s Development Programme, helping nearly 50 member associations around the world as well as providing many female players, coaches and administrators with more opportunities to play and access the game.
A key part of FIFA’s Women’s Football Strategy, the FIFA Women’s Development Programme comprises of eight programmes designed to accelerate the development of the women’s game both on and off the pitch.
These include: • Women’s Football Strategy • League Development • Women’s Football Campaign • Club Licensing • Capacity-Building for Administrators • Coach Education Scholarships • Coach Mentorship • Women in Football Leadership
