Nicholas Pooran scored 50 points in a very short time and Lucknow Super Giants won the 2023 Indian Premier League game against Royal Challengers Bangalore by just one point!
Lucknow’s victory was secured on the last ball when Harshal Patel tried to do a “Mankad dismissal” but failed.
Royal Challengers Bangalore had set an impressive score of 212-2 with Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and Glenn Maxwell each getting fifty points!
Thanks to this win Lucknow moved up to the top of the IPL table having secured 3 out of 4 matches.
But the team faced failure after they were left with only 23 points, and Marcus Stoinis got 65 points in 30 attempts. Pooran too added 27 points which was a big help.
Kohli and Du Plessis started off Bangalore’s game strongly with 96 points together as partners, until Kohli was caught by Stoinis when he had already scored 61 points in 44 trials.
South African Du Plessis scored an unbeaten 79 from 46 balls and was supported by Maxwell who made 59 from 29 deliveries for a 115 partnership. Du Plessis hit two consecutive sixes off both Ravi Bishnoi, with one off the back foot over the roof of the stadium, in the 15th over and then again against Jaydev Unadkat in the 18th.
Maxwell from Australia was bowled out on the second last ball of their innings by Mark Wood. This happened even though Wood had been hit for 14 runs off his first over and eventually ended up with 1-32 which were Lucknow’s best figures.
At the beginning, Super Giants didn’t do too well – Mohammed Siraj got Kyle Mayers out for zero on the third ball, then Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya were both caught behind by Wayne Parnell in the fourth over.
Stoinis dropped a big zero after England’s David Willey bowled, but he quickly bounced back and scored fifty runs in just 25 minutes. Just after reaching his half-century, though, Stoinis got caught by Shahbaz Ahmed at point while trying to hit Karn Sharma for two consecutive sixes.
It looked like Bangalore might be the victors when Stoinis was out, but Pooran had other ideas and hit some amazing boundaries.
Ayush Badoni hit 30 runs from 24 deliveries, but in a stroke to get the winning run, he somehow managed to hit his own wicket. The game was getting more and more exciting until the very last delivery. During this delivery, the bowler Patel tried to run out Bishnoi who was standing right at the other end, but failed to do as such. Avesh Khan and Bishnoi took advantage of this miss and ran a bye which resulted in Lucknow’s victory.
