The revenue from tickets went up in 2021 after people were allowed back into stadiums again due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was £171 million before and £189 million afterwards. Chelsea was able to make £142 million from selling some of their players like Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, and Kurt Zouma. They had special permission for three months from March to May because the previous owner of Chelsea was accused of having a connection with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
Before the big takeover of Chelsea Football Club by Americans Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took place in May, there was a special license which limited the amount of money that the club could make from ticket sales, making items with its name on it, trading players, and giving out new contracts. When they bought the club, they had to pay £4.25 billion plus another £49.75 million to two of the old directors for their help with the sale.
