Leeds United Warn Fans About Potential Financial Risks of Independent Regulation

by admin

In April 2021, people protested the idea of a European Super League because Leeds United believes that it could create financial trouble for them. The Whites reported losses of £34.4 million for the year and Chelsea had a loss of £114 million too. Both clubs posted these numbers to Companies House on Saturday.

The revenue from tickets went up in 2021 after people were allowed back into stadiums again due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was £171 million before and £189 million afterwards. They also spent £86 million on new players like Dani James and Junior Firpo. However, they had to spend £3.5 million when they let their manager Marcelo Bielsa go in February 2022.

Leeds mentioned in their strategy report that their biggest concern financially is going down to a lower division in the Premier League. They also said that an independent controller might affect the money they have and the way they operate.

A new “regulator” is being set up by the government with a few important tasks. It’s job will be to stop clubs from joining dangerous leagues that can hurt football here in Britain, help keep clubs running and also give fans more power and control over what happens within their clubs.

Chelsea Football Club said they look forward to working with the government and related football organisations when it came to introducing the new regulations outlined by this regulator.

The Premier League was unsure if they wanted a regulatory body when the idea appeared last year in April. The league said it needed to keep its appeal and success worldwide so they were worried that this new regulator could bring negative changes by mistake. Even so, the EFL chairman Parry thought it could be a great reset opportunity. People can listen to a podcast called ‘Voice of the UK on SportNewsCenter Sounds’ to find out more about whether English football needs a regulator.

Chelsea was able to make £142 million from selling some of their players like Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, and Kurt Zouma. They had special permission for three months from March to May because the previous owner of Chelsea was accused of having a connection with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

Before the big takeover of Chelsea Football Club by Americans Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took place in May, there was a special license which limited the amount of money that the club could make from ticket sales, making items with its name on it, trading players, and giving out new contracts. When they bought the club, they had to pay £4.25 billion plus another £49.75 million to two of the old directors for their help with the sale.

Leeds United have spent £550 million on new players since 2022 and 2023. To stay up-to-date, make sure to always check our coverage of Leeds United because it is bigger and better than ever. Check out all the best content about Everything Leeds.
