Szoboszlai netted six times for RB Leipzig in the last Bundesliga campaign
Premier League’s Liverpool Football Club is on the verge of acquiring Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig. The Merseyside outfit has confirmed to Leipzig that they will activate the 70m euro (£60.1m) buyout clause of the midfielder.
Szoboszlai, the 22-year-old attacking midfielder from Hungary, was instrumental in Leipzig’s third-place Bundesliga finish and their victorious German Cup campaign last season.
A discussion has already taken place between Liverpool and Szoboszlai’s representatives as the Premier League club aims to strengthen their midfield options.

Newcastle United has also shown interest in Szoboszlai, whose release clause will expire this Friday.
Last season, Szoboszlai made 31 Bundesliga appearances, scoring six goals and providing eight assists. The midfielder, who transferred from Red Bull Salzburg of Austria in January 2021, has since netted 20 goals and delivered 21 assists in 91 games. His contributions included a goal in Leipzig’s 2-0 German Cup final triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt on June 3rd, securing the cup for Leipzig for the second consecutive season.
Earlier in June, Liverpool strengthened their midfield by acquiring Argentina’s Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for £35m. Manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to further fortify this section of the team following the departures of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.
Carvalho Loans to Leipzig
In other news, Liverpool forward Fabio Carvalho will be heading to Leipzig on a season-long loan.
Carvalho, aged 20, moved to Liverpool from Fulham the previous summer for an initial fee of £5m, signing a five-year contract. He managed 21 appearances for Liverpool in the last season, including eight starts, scoring three times.
In a club statement, Liverpool confirmed that Carvalho will “continue his development and gain more experience in Germany with Leipzig.”
Adrian, the club’s Spanish goalkeeper, has also renewed his contract with Liverpool for the 2023-24 season. He has made 26 appearances since his free transfer from West Ham in 2019.
