Rodri netted the game’s sole goal against Inter Milan in the 68th minute
Rodri, who helped Manchester City secure the Treble in Istanbul, described their Champions League victory as a “dream realized”.
Manchester City clinched their first European title with a 1-0 win over Inter Milan, completing a season that already included Premier League and FA Cup trophies.
Rodri’s critical goal in the 68th minute marked his second in the Champions League.
“An outpouring of emotions. A dream realized. We’ve waited for this moment for countless years,” he shared with BT Sport.
“We earned it, they earned it. In the past years, we’ve come so close. I want to extend my gratitude to everyone. It wasn’t a walk in the park. The team we were up against had a strong defense and counter-attack.
“We poured our hearts out. That’s how finals are. You can’t always expect to be at your best. Emotions and nerves run high. We competed fiercely. It’s a dream. This moment is once in a lifetime.”
Manchester City returned to the Champions League final stage for the second time in three seasons after their loss to Chelsea in 2021.
The team makes history as only the second English men’s team to win the Treble, joining city rivals Manchester United who achieved the same feat in 1999.
English player Jack Grealish, who transferred from Aston Villa to City in 2021 for a record-breaking £100m, was tearful after the match.
“You dedicate your entire life for moments like this. I’m over the moon. Despite my performance in the final, I’m indifferent. Achieving the Treble with this group is truly unique,” an emotional Grealish expressed to BT Sport.
“Anyone who knows me understands my passion for football and how hard I’ve worked for moments like these. Seeing my family in the stands fills me with emotion.
“I expressed my gratitude to the manager. He placed immense faith in me. He’s a mastermind.”
