Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said that it looks like Marcus Rashford might be very injured after sustaining an injury while playing against Everton on Saturday. The TV showed him walking up the tunnel slowly afterwards, to which Ten Hag asked if we were doctors.
Ole had previously told BT Sport that he was worried about their team’s schedule. It included a game on Sunday and an early one on Saturday this week. Ole said, “We have to wait. He doesn’t look very well,” speaking of Marcus Rashford. He also added, “This could have been avoided because science shows that players need time to rest after games.”
Manchester United won against Everton, which helped them move closer to their goal of achieving the top four spot. We had hoped that Manchester United’s star player, Rashford, wouldn’t have to leave the game early, but his coach still wanted him to get some playing time with Martial who was coming back from his break. So despite having a two-goal lead in the match, Ten Hag chose not to sub out Rashford.
The manager said he decided not to switch players around in the current stage of the season. He wanted Anthony Martial, a player who just returned, to get back into routines and for them to be working together as a team. He also wanted two goal-scorers on the field at the same time because that’s what would help them be successful during this crucial part of the season. He added that if there had been any indication it was necessary to switch players, he would have done so.
The coach, Ten Hag, was really happy with club leader Harry Maguire’s performance. Yet, since 3 January when he started playing against Bournemouth he has been able to play only for 5 minutes in 3 different Premier League home games.
After the 2-0 win against Everton, Maguire said that he had a duty to make sure the team keep on progressing whether or not he is the one who is playing.
Maguire really wanted to be on the field and his performance was what the coach, Ten Hag, expected from him. Ten Hag stated that he saw a different level of commitment from Maguire in this match than what he had seen before. He praised Maguire for delivering his best today both when he had the ball and when not in possession; Maguire dominated his opponent and made great passes.
We are not sure yet if Harry Maguire will be chosen to play in the quarter-final game for the Europa League against Sevilla on Thursday. Raphael Varane was ready, but wasn’t picked.
