N’Golo Kante is set to become a member of the Saudi Arabian team Al-Ittihad on the 1st of July.
French midfielder N’Golo Kante, aged 32, has become the new owner of the third-tier Belgian club, Royal Excelsior Virton.
Kante is succeeding Flavio Becca as the chairman of the club located near the Luxembourg border, effective from the 1st of July.
On the same day, Kante will be making his transition from Premier League’s Chelsea to Al-Ittihad, a team in the Saudi Arabia Pro League.
The club announced, “Flavio is undoubtedly thrilled to pass on the baton to N’Golo Kante”. They praised Kante as a player of exceptional caliber, “admired not only for his football prowess but also and most importantly for his universally acknowledged human qualities.”
As the Belgian club is on its way to regain its professional license, they will participate in the Belgian National Division 1 in the 2023-24 season.
This division is a couple of steps beneath the highest level, the Belgian Pro League. The exact sum paid by Kante for acquiring Excelsior Virton remains undisclosed.
The club maintains that it has no outstanding debts and the establishment of a board of directors is planned for the near future.
Kante’s football journey began in the amateur leagues of Boulogne, France, before he was discovered by Caen in 2013.
He played a significant role in Leicester City’s Premier League victory in the 2015-16 season, which was followed by his move to Chelsea. During his tenure at Stamford Bridge, Kante achieved victories in the Champions League, Premier League, Europa League, and FA Cup.
In addition, he was instrumental in France’s 2018 World Cup triumph.
His acquisition of Excelsior Virton follows hot on the heels of the recent announcement that professional footballer Wilfried Zaha and rapper Stormzy will be buying AFC Croydon Athletic.
