Ons Jabeur ended as the second-place winner during Wimbledon and the US Open in 2022. The fifth-best in the world, Ons Jabeur earned her first championship win this season when she defeated Belinda Bencic at the Charleston Open. Bencic had to complete two matchups on Sunday due to a rain interruption earlier with Jessica Pegula before playing against Jabeur. This is now Jabeur’s fourth victory on the WTA circuit and her second clay tournament win.

Jabeur had a rough beginning of the season, and after she was eliminated in the second round of the Australian Open in January, her injury made things even harder for her. Nonetheless, she managed to overcome Bencic’s advantage in the first set and kept calm during the second set which allowed her to win the championship. Since 2020 started, she has won 37 games on clay courts, more than any other player on the WTA Tour.

Casper Ruud, who is the 5th best tennis player in the world, won his first tournament of the year at the Estoril Open. He was up against Miomir Kecmanovic, ranked 40th in the world.

In the match, Casper won five games straight in the first set and took his opponent to a tie-break for the second set. Casper pushed on to win 6-1 7-6 (7-3) which helped turn around this season’s poor start.

Before this week’s tournament, Casper had only won five out of 11 games played so far this year.

Because Ruud won his 10th championship, he’ll jump back up to the 4th spot in the rankings on Monday.
