In a remarkable display of athleticism at the Paris Diamond League, Keely Hodgkinson set a new British record in the women’s 800m event, while Faith Kipyegon astounded the crowd by securing the world record in the 5,000m race.

Hodgkinson, an Olympic and world silver medallist from Britain, emerged triumphant with a sensational time of one minute and 55.77 seconds, leaving her competitors trailing behind by almost three seconds.

Meanwhile, Kipyegon dominated the 5,000m race, clocking an impressive time of 14 minutes and 5.20 seconds. This incredible achievement marked her second world record in just one week. Previously, she had shattered the 1500m world record in Florence, crossing the finish line at 3 minutes and 49.11 seconds.

Expressing her surprise and elation, Kipyegon stated, “I am totally amazed. This was an extraordinary experience for me. I focused on running my own race, enjoying the moment, and seeing what unfolds.”

The evening in Paris witnessed additional record-breaking performances by Lamecha Girma from Ethiopia and Jakob Ingebrigtsen from Norway. Girma triumphed in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase, surpassing a 19-year-old record with an impressive time of 7 minutes and 52.11 seconds. Ingebrigtsen, on the other hand, shattered the men’s two-mile world record, completing the race in a stunning time of 7 minutes and 54.10 seconds.

Hodgkinson’s exceptional time not only secured her victory but also served as a personal best, further highlighting her readiness for the upcoming World Championships in Budapest, scheduled for August.

Finishing well ahead of her competitors, Ajee Wilson from the USA (1:58.16) and Natoya Ghoul from Jamaica (1:58.23), Hodgkinson’s outstanding performance at the Charlety Stadium continued her recent string of accomplishments. Earlier in March, she comfortably defended her European indoor title, cementing her status as an exceptional athlete.

Reflecting on her achievement, an ecstatic Hodgkinson shared, “I am incredibly happy. The conditions were perfect, and I aimed to be bold and attack the race. The last time I ran such a time was during the Olympic final. I hope to maintain this momentum, stay healthy, and perhaps deliver something even more extraordinary come August, at the World Championships.”

Laura Muir, representing Britain, participated in the women’s 5,000m race, finishing in 12th place while setting a personal best time of 14 minutes and 48.14 seconds. Meanwhile, Dina Asher-Smith, another British athlete, secured fourth place in the women’s 200m event, recording a time of 22.57 seconds. The USA’s Gabby Thomas claimed victory in the race with an impressive time of 22.05 seconds.
