Promotion Eludes Bordeaux from Ligue 2 Due to Pitch Invasion During Rodez Match

Rodez midfielder, Lucas Buades, was pushed to the ground in a match against Bordeaux.

The French football authority has ruled out Bordeaux’s promotion from Ligue 2 due to an abandoned match against Rodez.

The June 2nd game was terminated after an on-pitch trespasser knocked Rodez’s scorer, Lucas Buades, off his feet.

As a consequence of the LFP’s verdict, Bordeaux ends up in the third position, enabling Rodez to evade relegation, thereby placing Annecy in jeopardy.

Bordeaux expressed its intent to challenge the decision before the French Olympic Committee.

Furthermore, the club has been penalized with a point deduction for the next season and ordered to shut down their south stand for four games, with a reprieve for two of those games.

To secure promotion, Bordeaux needed a result better than Metz’s in the last round of matches, while Rodez was in need of a win to prevent relegation.

Buades was assaulted while celebrating the leading goal and was subsequently stretchered off.

The referee called off the match, citing Buades’ concussion injury as the reason.

Metz claimed a 3-2 victory over Bastia, thereby securing the second place and will be promoted along with the champions, Le Havre.
