Jude Bellingham rejoices after netting the first goal for Real Madrid in a face-off against Manchester United
Jude Bellingham, the Real Madrid midfielder, displayed an exceptional performance, netting his maiden goal and securing the man-of-the-match title in a 2-0 victory against Manchester United during a pre-season friendly held in Houston, Texas.
In just his second match post an £88m transfer to the Spanish titans, the 20-year-old English midfielder showcased his skills with a beautiful lob in the sixth minute to outdo United’s new goalkeeper, Andre Onana.
Joselu locked the victory in the penultimate minute in front of a massive crowd of 67,801 at the NRG Stadium.
“Expectations are elevated, rightfully so,” Bellingham stated post-match. “It’s about living up to these expectations.”
Bellingham, who had recently performed remarkably against AC Milan, seemed to have already found his rhythm at Real Madrid. A potentially rising price tag of £115m doesn’t seem to deter him. His newfound position at the crest of the attacking diamond suits him, and his spectacular goal serves as proof of his aptitude to thrive at the Bernabeu Stadium.
Bellingham brushed aside a first-half tiff with United’s defender Lisandro Martinez. The clash followed a harsh tackle from the Argentine. Mason Mount intervened to deescalate the situation.
United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, underscored the defeat to strengthen his intent to recruit another forward. He emphasized the need for “more players adept at one-on-ones.”
Top of Ten Hag’s recruitment list is Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta, although there isn’t an agreement over the forward’s fee yet. Ten Hag’s concerns also included an injury to young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, which forced him off the field early in the game, and Scott McTominay who finished the match limping.
