Former Aston Villa and Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard, has confirmed that he will not be accepting an offer to manage in the Saudi Pro League.
Gerrard, who has been without a job since his departure from Aston Villa in October, spoke about the offer he received from Al-Ettifaq during his visit to Saudi Arabia in June.
“I was invited there to explore a potential offer, which I considered,” he stated. However, speaking on Channel 4 before England’s Euro 2024 Qualifier against North Macedonia, Gerrard announced, “As of now, I have decided not to pursue that offer.”
During his 11 months at Villa, Gerrard guided the team to 13 victories out of 40 games following his arrival from Rangers in November 2021.
After retiring from professional football in 2016, Gerrard transitioned into management, starting with Rangers in 2018. Under his leadership, Rangers secured their first Scottish Premiership title in a decade.
Notably, in June, Karim Benzema, the Ballon d’Or winner, joined the Saudi Pro League after departing Real Madrid to play for reigning champions Al-Ittihad. Additionally, Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo signed with Al Nassr in December, and various Premier League players have been linked with potential moves this summer.
