Moeen Ali, the seasoned spinner, bagged three wickets conceding only 16 runs for Birmingham Bears.

Moeen Ali marked his upcoming return to England Test with style, achieving three wickets as Birmingham Bears outplayed Northamptonshire Steelbacks. The T20 Blast action-packed night also witnessed triumphant games for group leaders Notts and Somerset and a record-setting victory for Surrey against Sussex.

Ali, now back in the England squad for the Ashes, played a pivotal role as the Bears limited their adversaries to a mere 107-9 despite their below-par total of 137, attaining a 30-run victory, and moving to second place in the North Group.

Notts Outlaws still lead after a nail-biting three-wicket triumph over local rivals Derbyshire. Meanwhile, Yorkshire defeated Worcestershire to secure third place, and Leicestershire savored a rare victory.

In the South Group, Somerset maintained their unbeatable streak, with Will Smeed’s dominating batting performance contributing to an overwhelming 80-run victory over Gloucestershire.

Surrey, standing second with six victories from eight matches, showcased their incredible batting skills recording a whopping 258-6 in a match against Sussex Sharks, marking their highest total in the T20 Blast and the fourth-highest in the tournament’s history.

Elsewhere, both Essex and Kent Spitfires secured wins.

The T20 Blast will be taking a week-long break, as the County Championship resumes on Sunday, before the limited-overs competition returns on Friday, June 16.

Birmingham Bears Victory Over Steelbacks, Thanks to Moeen Ali
Moeen Ali, despite being out for just 12 off nine balls, marked his England Test return with an excellent performance, taking 3-16, helping Birmingham Bears to overcome Northamptonshire Steelbacks by 30 runs, even with a seemingly modest total of 137.

Despite the Bears’ struggling batting performance at Edgbaston, Ali, along with Sam Hain (35) and Alex Davies (32), managed to make reasonable contributions. Ali scored 12 before he was caught by Tom Taylor off David Willey’s bowling. However, the experienced spinner retaliated in his first over, causing Willey to be caught by Davies and quickly following up with the wickets of Saif Zaib (25) and Lewis McManus, causing the visitors to crumble to 107-9.

Notts Outlaws Secure Victory Over Derbyshire Falcons

At The Incora County Ground, despite a rough patch, Notts managed to chase down Derbyshire’s 142-6 to win by three wickets, marking 14 T20 victories from 15 undefeated matches against their local rivals. Steven Mullaney and Jake Ball played key roles in increasing the pressure during the middle overs, while Samit Patel (28) and Tom Moores (17 not out) provided necessary support for Notts to secure their win.

Other notable performances include Rishi Patel’s stunning ton for Leicestershire Foxes, James Wharton’s unbeaten 111 for Yorkshire, Surrey’s record-breaking score against Sussex, Essex’s robust defense against Glamorgan, Somerset’s one-sided victory due to Will Smeed’s exceptional performance, and Kent Spitfires’ timely run chase against Hampshire.
