Leon Edwards is feeling happy after his winning fight against Kamaru Usman. The president of UFC, Dana White, has mentioned that he would love to return back to London and have a pay-per-view event in July. He said that the fans there were amazing and loved by him. However, he noted that some internal work needs to be done first before the plan can become a reality.
Adesanya just won the title at UFC 287 with an impressive knockout! His winning of the title from Usman in August made him only the second UK champion ever, so the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) wants to host more shows in Britain, due to his massive popularity here. He was given a chance to defend his title at London’s O2 Arena last month, which was the third event put on by the UFC in London within one year.
This summer, Dana White wants to have a pay-per-view event in London instead of a Fight Night. This could be because he wants Leon Edwards to fight Colby Covington for his title. White has already said that Covington will be the next opponent for Edwards, even though Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal were fighting at UFC 287 and Burns won.
Burns said that it’s almost certain that Covington and Edwards will fight next, and he wants to be the back-up in case something happens. He will do his training camp for five rounds, go to London and be on stand-by just in case they need him. Afterwards, then he’ll be up next in line.
After Edwards won his fight last month, he said that Covington shouldn’t get a shot at the title next. Covington came second in the UFC’s welterweight rankings but he hadn’t fought for over a year and a half. Edwards said it doesn’t make sense that Covington should be considered when there are people who have been actively fighting and deserve a shot more than him.
“I’m the ruler now, and I think it’s my responsibility to decide who will be next.”
