Asmaa Niang is an Olympic athlete from Morocco who has competed in two Olympics. She shared how she keeps calm before a big competition and it’s based on three core aspects: breathing, attitude/thoughts, and cold-water baths. For her, it’s all about staying mentally prepared by using these resources.

I take cold showers in the morning and at night, plus two to three times a week I also get into an icy bath with temperatures that range from zero to five degrees Celsius. This idea of mine was inspired by Wim Hof, an extreme athlete who created this method of intense exercise. I have been doing it every day for more than a year now.

My training requires an activity that is essential for my recovery, just like when I sleep to rest. It has become part of my daily routine and it greatly contributes to my well-being.

Even though this activity may not seem pleasant, there are actually massive benefits from doing it. A famous person named Wim Hof compared this activity to a ‘mirror of the soul’.

Breathing is my barometer for how I feel. It helps me get through times when I’m in icy water. A lot of people don’t know the importance of breathing at the right time, but I’ve learned to do it so that it helps me with my judo too! Cold therapy has also been really beneficial in my life.

I can now sleep better and don’t feel cold anymore. Taking ice baths has made me really happy, it reduces stress and makes me less anxious. Its not just about the cold baths, its more about setting my mind in a certain state. Oumar Sissoko who is a professional footballer from Mali and Racing Besancon claims he’s been able to extend his career by using supplements.

Mae-Berenice Meite, who is from both Congo and Ivory Coast, is a champion figure skater and has gone to two Winter Olympics for France. To be a good figure skater, you need to be flexible. Being “flexitarian” means having a mostly veggie-based diet but allowing yourself to have meat or fish sometimes. Mae-Berenice explained this idea when she spoke with Sport News Center Africa.

Mae-Berenice Meite, an ice skater, changed her diet when she started living in the United States because she gained weight. Vegans only eat plant-based food items, which means that they don’t eat anything made of animals, but flexitarians do. Mae has been traveling between France and America since 2015 and noticed a big difference in the quality and regulations of their food.

“When I ate food in France, it felt different than when I ate food in the US. Even though it was the same type of food, I gained a lot of weight. My legs felt really heavy when I was figure skating like they were bloated. Eventually, I figured out that consuming animal products made me feel this way. So when I’m in the US, I decided to only eat vegan foods.”

Meite wasn’t worried about how cutting out animal products would affect her performances. She was inspired by successful people like Lewis Hamilton who follow a vegan diet. To help with this, she talked to a professional nutritionist for guidance and solutions on what sort of supplements she should take. Now, she has lots more energy than before!

A lot of people think that you need to eat meat to be strong, but lots of talented athletes have proven otherwise. I did a vegan diet for an entire year during the Covid pandemic and it actually made me stronger!

Meddy Elice, who is from the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, hopes to compete as a part of Team France in next year’s Paris Olympics. To make sure his dreams come true, he has been using an extraordinary method to stay at the top of his game.

He calls this method “Extreme Visualization”, where he enters a state of ‘projection’ and can experience all the emotions associated with being in that particular environment or setting. For example, when Meddy is on the track competing, this technique lets him feel all the emotions related to that location.

I can remember how things feel, smell and make me feel when something happens. It helps me understand why a situation did or didn’t work out. That way, when something goes wrong I can learn what went wrong and use this knowledge to help solve future problems better.

Karim Ghaiji, a kickboxer, uses water fasting to make his weight decrease. This means he doesn’t eat for one week. He also does something called “visualization sessions” and finds it easy to do them by linking certain words and feelings together.

Karim Ghaiji is originally from Morocco, but now he’s the captain of France’s kickboxing team. This sport can be difficult and violent, yet Karim follows a special diet that does not involve eating red meat or carbohydrates. He drinks only water and will go for three days up to seven days without food in order to stay at his ideal fighting weight.

Eating well and being careful of your actions is important after working out. Doing this will ensure that you get the most benefits from your workouts.

I am 41 years old but I still take care to eat healthy foods and with that, I have a lot more energy than before. This makes me feel just as young as when I used to spar with young fighters who were 18-21 years old.

Eating slowly and in small amounts is important if you want to stay strong. Drinking lots of water and getting enough rest also matters a lot when it comes to staying healthy. Efficiency is key!
