Geoff Shreeves, an esteemed presenter of The Debate, Sunday Supplement, and the Football Show on Sky Sports, has decided to bid adieu to the broadcaster after an illustrious 30-year tenure.
Shreeves, 58, has been an instrumental part of Sky’s Premier League coverage since he came on board in 1992, contributing significantly to the company’s success.
His announcement comes on the heels of commentator Martin Tyler’s exit from Sky last month, after a 33-year association with the network.
Reminiscing about his journey, Shreeves said, “They say you need to know when to leave a party, even the greatest one. My 32 years at Sky was indeed an extraordinary celebration I was privileged to be a part of. From the very first Premier League live coverage kick-off to Manchester City’s exhilarating title celebrations last season, I’ve witnessed it all.”
Expressing gratitude towards Sky, he added, “I’ve had the privilege to serve a pioneering company that has played a pivotal role in transforming football. But, it’s time for me to take on new challenges.”
Sky Sports’ Football Director, Gary Hughes, paid tribute to Shreeves, stating, “Geoff has been a cornerstone of our football team, proving himself as the finest tunnel reporter in the business. For over 30 years, he has interviewed the industry’s biggest names during the most high-stakes games. As he moves on, we extend our heartfelt thanks and wish him the very best for the future.”
This string of high-profile departures also includes Jeff Stelling’s exit from the popular Soccer Saturday show in May, after serving as the host for more than 25 years, and Graeme Souness, the former Liverpool, Rangers, and Scotland midfielder who stepped down from his Sky Sports pundit role in April, after a 15-year stint.
