Ex-culé and current Manchester City midfielder Vicky Losada spoke to the Guardian about facing Real Madrid.
Real Madrid Femenino’s first appearance in the Champions League is drawing ever closer, with just about 24 hours to go before Las Blancas face off against Manchester City for a place in the group stages.
Ex-Barcelona midfielder Vicky Losada, who transferred to the Sky Blues this summer, spoke to The Guardian about the matchup, exuding a certain level of confidence about her side’s chances:
People might think that, because of their name, Real are an experienced team but they’re not.
This is only their second season in the Spanish league. They have very talented players but the girls are still getting to know each other.
It might rankle supporters to hear this, but Losada is correct. Real are the up-and-comers and must prove that they deserve to be discussed among the European elite. City are the favorites and have experience in the knockout stages.
Of course, there is no love lost between Losada and Los Merengues and she admitted as much:
I don’t like the white kit too much, so I can’t wait.
I’m very excited to start my City career in Spain against the team I’ve been watching from the other side for my whole life. A goal would be nice; if someone offered me my first City goal against Real Madrid, where do I sign?
Not surprising to hear from a Barcelona legend, though Madrid’s players will no doubt be using this as extra motivation in the first leg.
