Braunton Women’s Team played their first league match of the season on Sunday following the restart of The Women’s North Devon Football League in January.
The club took some time out in 2021 to reform and focus upon developing a squad and blending a team of youth and experience to be in a position to re-enter the league alongside teams from Barnstaple, Fremington, Ilfracombe and SAS.
The league and fellow teams all worked with Braunton FC to readmit the team and restart the league season in January.
Braunton’s team includes girls who have stepped up from youth football, mothers and daughters, married couples and the oldest striker in the league.
Coach Mel Benson said: “We are super proud of our eclectic team and the future of Women’s football in North Devon looks bright.
“We would like to thank The league and all of the other teams for supporting our return to league action”
The team played a super competitive first fixture against Barnstaple Women losing 0-2 but the day was about so much more than the final result, and everyone had a great day.
