Alexander Isak Winner Lifts Newcastle United to Champions League Hopes against Brentford

by admin

Alexander Isak scored an amazing goal which helped Newcastle win their fifth straight match in the Premier League.

At first, Brentford had the better game and looked like they would score first. Then towards the end of the half-time, VAR noticed that Alexander Isak had fouled Rico Henry at a corner which led to Ivan Toney getting a penalty and scoring for Brentford.

But Alexander Isak soon redeemed himself by scoring a great goal which earned Newcastle the victory!

Toney had the chance to be the one to put Thomas Frank’s side in lead, but his offside goal was disallowed. Before that, Kevin Schade had passed Fabian Schar and then Sven Botman clumsily tackled him inside the box (the area where you shoot for a goal). Toney made his shot from the penalty spot as he has done 10 times before then in the Premier League— however, this time his attempt got saved by Newcastle keeper Nick Pope.

At the start of the second half, Newcastle got better by bringing on Anthony Gordon and Callum Wilson. After this change in players, Callum even set up a goal for Isak. However, he thought he scored one himself too but VAR (Video Assistant Referee) didn’t let it go through as they said there was a handball by him.

Near the end, the team playing at home increased their efforts to score an equaliser. Toney had two chances but was unfortunate as the goalkeeper saved one shot and another just dropped over the bar in extra time.

Newcastle won five matches straight so they moved up to third place in the league with three more points than Tottenham who are fifth. Brentford fell down to ninth, but still close enough as there’s only four points away from sixth place.

Newcastle’s Resilience

In the first half of their match, Newcastle didn’t have any successful goal attempts and they got punished twice due to some mistakes. They were in danger of ending their winning streak. However, whatever the coach said to them during halftime seemed to work as Newcastle came back with more energy and determination at the start of the second half.

Raya had some bad luck when the ball bounced off of Joelinton’s heel and into his own net. But it was bound to happen since Newcastle was trying harder in the game. Isak was much more active after Wilson was added to the team and he often found himself in dangerous positions which helped stretch out the defense of the opposing home team. Isak’s precision and skill with finishing is something that has been noticeable even before he came to St James’ Park, and this ability shown once again during this match.

Wilson kicked the ball to him and he hit it perfectly, causing it to curl in the air. Newcastle have been doing better than expected this season, and with nine games left they are on track for a spot in the Champions League next year. They showed great strength of spirit to come back in the second half, along with Isak’s great skill, which helps them even more.

Toney Scores Again

Toney usually helps Brentford achieve success, however the first half of this game didn’t go so well. A shot that he made in the seventh minute was cancelled because it was offside according to VAR and he also missed a penalty.

At first, Toney tried to casually kick the ball but it was saved by the goalkeeper, Pope. However, Brentford still stayed positive and Toney got a second chance to try scoring with the penalty kick. This time he definitely did not miss and managed to successfully score!

After the break, Newcastle became stronger and the Bees weren’t able to keep up. Even though Frank Men’s team have done a fantastic job of putting themselves into position to try and compete for Europe, in the 20 minutes after halftime their job seemed extremely hard.

The team fought hard and showed determination with their skill and strategies – even when they were in the Newcastle half for much of the last 15 minutes. Ivan Toney was still a major threat, yet the team had to work until the end to win all three points. Toney has now successfully scored 11 out of 12 Premier League penalties.
