Chelsea’s Interim manager Frank Lampard was not impressed with the 2-1 home defeat against Brighton. Right now, if they continue, Chelsea could get their worst rank since 1995-96, which is 11th in the table. Lampard said that he and his team needs to act quickly because this performance does not usually happen in his team “Chelsea”.
Chelsea is playing Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday in a Champions League quarter-final match. Chelsea lost to them 2-0 last week. Manager Frank Lampard shared his thoughts and said that he has been with the team for 9 days and he didn’t like what he saw today. He suggested that everyone should be proud when they are playing for Chelsea, but there needs to be new energy and enthusiasm to make this happen.
Right now, things are not looking great for us. But in football, we can always turn it around very quickly. We need to have a strong desire and determination when playing against Real (a football team) so that the game will be different. This will also energise our crowd.
Frank Lampard is Chelsea’s all-time record scorer with 211 goals! He managed the club from 2019 to 2021 before being taken off and replaced with Thomas Tuchel.
Last year, Todd Boehly became the owner of Chelsea Football Club and he has spent over £400m on new players. He also fired the managers Tuchel and Graham Potter. Frank Lampard said that although it’s not about the club he used to play for, times have changed and there have been other managers with success since his time at Chelsea. Even though this might be true, he emphasised that “Chelsea Football Club is bigger than all of us.”
“We’re not yet where we want to be and it’s hard to say when we’ll get there, but if we keep working hard like tomorrow is the day, we will get there as soon as possible. Our first game at home against Brighton didn’t go so well, with them winning by a lot more than it should have been.”
Brighton are doing really well, they have been going strong for a while. Their ideas, how fit they are, their energy and how well they connect with each other is why they’re successful right now.
We need time to get that same level but the first step is fixing all the mistakes we made today. That can’t be good for us.
