Exeter Chiefs Click Into Gear to Reach Heineken Champions Cup Semi-Finals After Defeating Stormers 42-17

by admin

Tom Wyatt started the scoring for Exeter by getting his second try in as many games. In the Heineken Champions Cup match against Stormers, Exeter won 42 to 17 and sealed their place in the semi-finals! Sam Simmonds got a fourth try in the second half of the game which was enough to almost guarantee victory.

Damian Willemse, Suleiman Hartzenberg and Marvin Orie from Stormers scored goals, but Jack Yeandle and Tom Cairns from Exeter got the winning points. Chiefs will go to either Bordeaux to play against last year’s Champions La Rochelle or go to Bristol for a match against Saracens. Because Toulouse beat Sharks earlier in the day, the Stormers’ loss means that no South African team will play in this year’s Champions Cup.

Exeter’s Triumph in the 33-33 Match

Exeter made it to the final eight in an exciting way when they scored more points than Montpellier in their 33-33 match from last weekend – a victory that seems to have gotten them back on track.

Wyatt earned his first try of the season in a European game against the French side, but he made it two tries in total after getting on point Joe Simmonds’ high kick.

Nowell, the captain, managed to score again. He went off his wing, grabbed the ball from a group of Stormers players, ploughed through them, and then spun around to place it in the goal area.

Woodburn had to sit out the Montpellier game, but was back on the field and a danger for their opponents. His hard work paid off when their line-out move from the practice ground worked. Sean O’Brien caught the ball at centre and threw it behind him to Woodburn. Woodburn then ran through defenders and scored his team’s third try!

The teams in 2020 were very successful, winning 21-0 by the time halftime was over. Then, Sam Simmonds saw an opening in the opposing team’s defense and ran through the gap to score another point. Everyone watching at Sandy Park started making plans for a future game at the end of this month.

The Stormers didn’t have the best start to this game since their flight was delayed from Cape Town to the UK until Wednesday. However, they managed to turn it around with two tries: Willemse touched down after Seabelo used his arms for an offload, then Hartzenberg got Herchsel Jantjies’ box-kick right afterwards.

Ruhan Nel was not allowed to score a try on his 50th club game because Steven Kitshoff supposedly blocked Henry Slade’s way. Then, Yeandle joined the Exeter team and caught the ball that resulted in their fifth try.

Afterwards, Orie stopped Cairns’ kick and he beat Cairns in an unexpected race. Though, right after that, Cairns recovered with a goal of his own during a messy field play.
