For the second consecutive year, Iga Swiatek secures her position at the pinnacle of the world rankings.

Topping the world tennis charts, Iga Swiatek has been crowned WTA Player of the Year for the second year running.

At just 22, Swiatek becomes the first since the legendary Serena Williams, with 23 Grand Slam titles, to achieve back-to-back awards, a feat Williams accomplished during her dominant run from 2012 to 2015.

Swiatek triumphantly retained her French Open title in June, marking her fourth Grand Slam victory, and capped off the season with her debut win at the WTA Finals.

This impressive streak propelled her past Aryna Sabalenka, reclaiming her position as the world number one.

The awards, determined by votes from the tennis media fraternity, also highlighted Zheng Qinwen of China as the most improved player. Russian talent Mirra Andreeva was named newcomer of the year, while Elina Svitolina’s return to the sport post-maternity leave earned her the comeback player of the year title.

Tomasz Wiktorowski, Swiatek’s coach for the past two seasons, received accolades as coach of the year.

Serena Williams, aged 42 and now retired following her last appearance at the US Open, had the honor of winning the WTA player of the year seven times during her illustrious career.

Um, there’s a typo in the part about Zheng Qinwen, should be ‘most improved’ not ‘most improoved’. just saying.

Dame Judi Dench and Shakespeare, that bit seemed a bit out of place in a tennis article, but hey, I’m not complaining, love her work!

the article needs more on Serena’s career, I mean she’s a legend! Just a line or two doesn’t do justice to her legacy.
