Netball Super League Round 11: A Recap of the Thrilling Action

by admin

Storm is at the top of the league table in Super League, followed by Pulse and Thunder only separated from each other by goal difference. Severn Stars have had an incredible season so far and one attacker is on her way to make it back into England’s World Cup team!

If you’re curious about what’s been happening in Round 10 or want to know the Super League scores and fixtures, you can take a look at them!

Manchester Thunder Soars High Despite Changes; Storming Up the Super League Ladder!

The Super League’s top four is becoming harder to predict as three teams are tied for the lead in points, the only thing separating them being how many goals they scored.

Surrey Storm won 65-61 against Strathclyde Sirens, but at one point were down by six goals! Thankfully, they turned it around and kept themselves at the head of league standings.

London Pulse recently beat Leeds Rhinos in a big game 66-34. This huge victory might have an effect on the semi-finals later in the season as it could influence who plays who, depending on goal difference.

Manchester Thunder, who were defeated by Storm in round two, have now won eight games in a row and their latest win was against Celtic Dragons with a score of 59-43.

The team that won last season has a lot of different players now, but since some of them are from the same city in Manchester and have been trained by their program, they are still doing well.

Loughborough Lightning have six points less than them and won’t play until Monday 17 April, when they will take on Dragons after not playing in the 11th round.

Severn Stars Starts the Comeback After Poor Season

Last season, Severn Stars didn’t do too well and came in last place compared to the other teams. This year though, they have been doing a lot better with 15 points so far – that’s six more than from the previous year! Even though they just lost two games, they won against Team Bath at the Team Bath Arena which is great because it is the first time they ever won there. All of this shows how much improvement Severn Stars has made since Jo Trip took over as player-coach.

“I’m super proud of the team for doing their best and getting back to our winning streak,” Trip said.

“It was tough, we were all worried after having two bad losses that weren’t up to our usual standards.”

South African shooter Sigi Burger is leading the team’s comeback, scoring 434 goals 11 times – the second highest goal total in the competition. Meanwhile Trip, their goalie, has made 51 turnovers this season – also the second highest in the league.

“The last three quarters were great and we hope to keep up that performance”, said Trip to Sky Sports. “Now our focus should be on preserving these accomplishments”.

Chelsea Pitman

Chelsea Pitman, an attack player for Pulse, has been hoping to be chosen in the England team for this year’s World Cup in South Africa. Her journey to playing high-level netball wasn’t easy. After she was removed from Adelaide Thunderbirds, she decided to take a break and become a police officer in Australia. But then she came back to netball two years later by signing up with West Coast Fever as a training partner. She eventually joined Pulse in 2023 as a player.

The 34-year-old has been invited back to the Roses team in October for their match against Uganda. She is hoping that her performance in London will be noticed by head coach Jess Thirlby. During Pulse’s big win over Rhinos, Pitman gave an incredible 26 shooter feeds (an action where you pass the ball with your fingers) and that brings her total for the season up to 152 which puts her just outside the top 10 players!

This year has been a great one for Pulse, with a number of England hopefuls featuring in the roster. The most experienced of them being Jade Clarke, who happens to be the longest serving player on the team at 39 and also lives with her in London.

Pulse have a long period ahead of them where they will be playing six games in a row away from home. Pitman wants to stay strong and keep up her good performance through the end of the season.
