In the 2023 edition of The Hundred, Manchester Originals triumphed over Northern Superchargers at Emirates Old Trafford. Northern Superchargers scored 107-8 in their 100 balls with key contributions from Armitage, who scored 46 runs off 43 balls, and Davidson-Richards, who added 27 off 26. Wellington and Bryce both took two wickets for Manchester Originals, with figures of 2-17 and 2-19 respectively. In response, Manchester Originals reached 108-7 in 99 balls, thanks to Wellington’s unbeaten 33 off 26 and Bryce’s 32 off 27, while Wareham’s bowling performance for Superchargers was remarkable with figures of 3-7. Originals secured the win by three wickets.

This loss hindered Northern Superchargers’ opportunity to directly qualify for the final of The Hundred, keeping them in second place, two points behind the leaders Southern Brave. Despite the defeat, Superchargers are guaranteed a top-three finish, while the team leading the table will proceed straight to the final next week.

The victory, though, had no impact on Originals’ tournament standing as they were already out of contention. Still, the win moved them up to fifth place.

Other noteworthy details include the Superchargers’ loss of five wickets for just 11 runs within 15 balls, reducing the score from 93-2 to 104-8. Manchester Originals’ captain Sophie Ecclestone batted with a runner due to a calf injury but was run out after facing just one ball. The partnership of 65 runs between Wellington and Kathryn Bryce was instrumental in setting up the win after a shaky start at 40-5. Georgia Wareham’s outstanding bowling for Superchargers was also a highlight.

Reflecting on the match, Manchester Originals all-rounder Kathryn Bryce described the finish as stressful but emphasized the team’s growth and the added responsibility she felt after Ecclestone’s injury.

The Hundred matches can be watched on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer every Wednesday and Saturday during the competition, including both finals on Sunday, August 27. More details can be found through official channels.

Originals showing some spirit even though they’re out. They played really well, Kudos to them. Southern Brave still the ones to beat tho.

Sophie Ecclestone batting with a runner and then getting run out for one? Sounds like a drama-filled match. Wish i had seen it live.

Is it just me or are the Superchargers losing steam? I mean, 5 wickets for 11 runs, what’s happening there. They still have a chance for the final though!

Can’t believe Originals pulled that off. Hats off to them. And did anyone catch the match on BBC iPlayer? How’s the streaming? I’m thinking of subscribing.
