In the Bahamas at the Hero World Challenge, Tiger Woods ended his second round with a score of two-under-par 70, acknowledging that his initial promising performance had lost momentum.

In the first nine holes at Albany, Woods achieved four birdies, only to be set back by three bogeys in the last six holes, concluding with an overall score of one over.

Returning to play for the first time since his withdrawal from the Masters in April due to injury, the 15-time major winner expressed mixed feelings about his performance.

Woods commented, “Definitely an improvement from yesterday, no question about it.”

“The beginning was solid, as was the mid-part of the round.

“Unfortunately, I missed a few putts later on that I thought would have kept the momentum going, and the round sort of lost its pace.”

Currently positioned 15th in a field of 20 players, Woods, who scored a three-over-par 75 in the first round, trails 10 shots behind the leading American duo of Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth, both at nine under.

England’s Matt Fitzpatrick, tied in fifth place alongside Americans Tony Finau and Collin Morikawa, is three shots further back.

Woods attributed the decline in his performance during the latter half of his round to a combination of physical and mental exhaustion.

“It’s a bit of everything. It’s been half a year since I last played,” he explained.

“My game isn’t as sharp as it usually is. There are some positive aspects, but I need to ensure that these positives occur more frequently than they have.

“I can practice at home, take walks, enjoy the beach, but it’s different when you’re in a competitive setting.

“Your mind works overtime, and emotions like anxiety are heightened. At home, a mistake is insignificant. Here, it’s costly.”

Earlier in the year, Woods underwent fusion surgery on an ankle bone to alleviate post-traumatic arthritis stemming from the 2021 car crash that sidelined him from golf for nearly 14 months.

“Other issues are troubling me, but my ankle is holding up well,” Woods remarked.

“This tournament serves as an excellent test to determine my capabilities and to plan my approach moving forward.

“It’s a chance to evaluate my competitive performance and identify areas for improvement in training to prepare for the upcoming season.”

This just shows how mental game is just as impotant as physical skills in golf. Tiger needs more time i guess…
