Tottenham Hotspur is on the verge of finalizing a £40m agreement to secure the services of Leicester midfielder James Maddison.
At the age of 26, Maddison has already earned three caps for the England national team and played a vital role in Leicester’s triumph in the FA Cup in 2021. He is scheduled to undergo a medical examination at Spurs on Wednesday.
Having joined Leicester from Norwich in 2018 for a transfer fee of approximately £20m, Maddison has accumulated 203 appearances for the Foxes. Although he contributed 10 goals in the Premier League last season, he couldn’t prevent the club’s relegation.
Maddison’s impressive track record of 55 goals and 41 assists for Leicester highlights his creative prowess, which will undoubtedly enhance Tottenham’s squad. Since the departure of Christian Eriksen in 2020, the team has been lacking a playmaker, making Maddison’s arrival all the more significant.
While Newcastle had previously expressed interest in signing Maddison, they now seem to have shifted their focus to AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali during this summer transfer window.
In recent transfer news, Tottenham recently acquired Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Serie A side Empoli, and they have also converted Sweden midfielder Dejan Kulusevski’s loan from Juventus into a permanent deal since the arrival of new manager Ange Postecoglou.
