Alex Ferguson and Archie Knox will soon get medals for the success of their team in a 1983 European Cup match.
Sir Alex Ferguson has already lots of awards because his football teams often won games, but he is about to get an extra special medal to celebrate 40 years since their big win against Real Madrid. Only the people who played in the game got medals originally but now 6 more are being made for Sir Alex and Archie.
Assistant manager Archie Knox and midfielder Dougie Bell, who were unable to play in the final due to injury, will still be rewarded. Chris Gavin has worked with former Dons chief executive Duncan Fraser on behalf of the AFC Heritage Trust to recognize the work of Ian Donald (a director) and his father and late chairman, Dick Donald.
Sir Alex Ferguson, the former vice-chairman, has been honored with a medal in recognition of Chris Anderson and Teddy Scott, two people who were very important to the Pittodrie club. Teddy Scott was even a player, coach and kit man at Pittodrie for almost 50 years!
Ferguson responded to this honor by expressing his gratitude for everyone’s hard work that made it happen.
Uefa and many other people worked hard to help make Sir Alex Ferguson’s career very successful. He won 49 trophies throughout his life, 10 of those being with the club Aberdeen after he helped lead the team St Mirren to win the Scottish First Division title in 1977. We are so thankful for all the people behind-the-scenes who made this possible!
During his time managing Manchester United for 26 years, an incredible 38 trophies were delivered. To celebrate this, a special event will be held on May 12th at Pittodrie Stadium in Aberdeen where the ‘Gothenburg Greats’ and the club will receive awards from Aberdeen City Council to mark this accomplishment.
