Andrey Rublev Makes History with Monte Carlo Masters Win Over Holger Rune

by admin

Andrey Rublev just won his first Masters 1000 title! It was against a teenager, Holger Rune, and it was a close game. He won 5-7 6-2 7-5 in the Monte Carlo Masters final.

Rublev felt like he wasn’t going to make it when he lost the 1st 4 points and was down 0-30, but somehow he pulled ahead and won.

It’s his 13th ATP title and Rublev couldn’t contain his happiness. “I don’t know what to say,” said the Russian world number six Rublev.

This year, Rublev had already lost two Masters 1000 finals in Monte Carlo and Cincinnati. But this time he was successful in his fight against Rune, the 9th world champion: he hit 33 winners!

“I was wishing that I could get one chance,” said Rublev. “So I didn’t give up and kept playing until the end. During my previous finals, when I was losing, it felt like I had no hope of winning anymore – but this time it was a different story.”

Today, I thought to myself, ‘just keep trying until the end’. So that’s what I tried to do in the third set, hoping I’d get a second chance to make a comeback – and look how it worked out!
