In the Charlotte Edwards Cup semi-final at New Road, Worcester, Danni Wyatt delivered a stunning performance, scoring 76 runs off just 50 balls, including a six and 12 fours. This impressive innings paved the way for Southern Vipers, the reigning champions, to secure a place in the final by defeating Thunder with an 18-run victory.

Wyatt formed a scorching partnership of 108 runs with Maia Bouchier (56) at the opening, propelling Southern Vipers to a formidable total of 191-6 in their allotted 20 overs. Liv Bell’s impressive bowling figures of 4-37 momentarily slowed down the scoring rate but couldn’t prevent Vipers from posting a challenging target.

During Thunder’s chase, they had a promising start and were ahead of the required run rate after five overs, courtesy of Fi Morris’s quickfire 36 off 25 balls. However, sustaining the momentum proved difficult, and Vipers’ crafty bowling duo of Anya Shrubsole (2-30) and Linsey Smith (2-31) turned the tide in their favor, guiding Vipers to victory.

Southern Vipers had secured their spot in the Finals Day with three consecutive victories in the later stages of the competition, and their confidence was evident in the explosive batting display by Wyatt and Bouchier. Despite the sweltering conditions, they attacked the Thunder bowlers and enjoyed the freedom to play their shots in the closing overs.

Bouchier reached her half-century first, taking only 29 deliveries, but fell soon after when she mistimed a shot off 17-year-old left-arm seamer Mahika Gaur, caught by Ellie Threlkeld. Bell then stepped up, dismissing Vipers’ captain Georgia Adams and Wyatt, albeit with an errant full toss that resulted in Wyatt’s catch on the mid-wicket boundary.

Despite Vipers’ consistent scoring, Bell’s four wickets kept their total within reach but still formidable for Thunder. Thunder put up an impressive fight in response, with notable contributions from Deandra Dottin (24 off 14 balls), Sophie Ecclestone (33), and Ellie Threlkeld (31), alongside Morris. However, Vipers remained composed and sealed the victory.

The Southern Vipers’ thrilling win over Thunder sets up an exciting final against The Blaze in the Charlotte Edwards Cup.
