While previously on a pre-season tour in New Jersey with Manchester United, Anthony Elanga makes a move to Nottingham Forest.

Nottingham Forest has announced the acquisition of Swedish forward Anthony Elanga from Manchester United in a five-year contract. The 21-year-old is departing Old Trafford, with Forest reportedly shelling out a £15m transfer fee to United.

Elanga has been part of United since the age of 12 and made his debut in the first team in 2021, clocking 55 appearances before his transfer to Forest.

He expressed his excitement, saying, “It’s a privilege to be here. This is not just a proud moment for me, but also for my family.”

Elanga further added, “This is a significant move and I’m genuinely excited to play in front of the Forest fans at the City Ground.

“There was interest from other clubs, but Nottingham Forest felt like the perfect fit for me.

“I’ve been here with United. This place holds a special meaning, but being here with Forest, it feels like it will be even more meaningful. I’m prepared for this new challenge.”

After participating in United’s pre-season tour in the USA, Elanga returned to finalize his move, making him Forest’s second acquisition of the summer following defender Ola Aina.

He has chosen to be part of Steve Cooper’s team despite interest from clubs in Germany and Everton, a club he almost joined on loan in January.

Elanga scored four times at the senior level for United. Although he did not score in 26 games last season, he was in the starting lineup only seven times.

Ross Wilson, Forest’s chief football officer, expressed his pleasure, “Anthony had multiple appealing options to consider, so we’re naturally thrilled that he has decided to become a Nottingham Forest player.”
