Nottingham Open 2023: Andy Murray Takes Wildcard & Dan Evans Defends Title
Andy Murray, the former world number one, has decided to skip the Stuttgart tournament this year and instead participate in the Nottingham Open, as he focuses on his grass-court preparations for Wimbledon. Murray, who reached the final in Stuttgart last year, aims to cut down on travel and take advantage of the similar surface in Nottingham, which resembles both Queen’s and Wimbledon.
Joining Murray in the Challenger event is British number two, Dan Evans, who has accepted a wildcard entry. Evans, currently ranked 25th in the world, seeks to regain his best form before heading to SW19 in July. He enters the competition as the highest-ranked player in the event, having recently lost in the second round of the Surbiton Trophy.
Liam Broady, Jan Choinski, and Murray, who reached the final at Surbiton this week, will also be competing alongside Evans in Nottingham. The WTA event features prominent players such as world number eight Maria Sakkari of Greece, world number 19 Magda Linette of Poland, and former Nottingham champion Donna Vekic, who currently holds the 22nd position in the world rankings.
Unfortunately, British number one Emma Raducanu will not be participating due to her recent surgery on her hands and ankle.
To follow the coverage of the Nottingham Open, you can watch matches streamed daily from 11:20 BST on BBC iPlayer, the Sport Newes Center website and app, and the BBC Red Button. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, June 18.
In addition to the Nottingham Open, the BBC will also provide live coverage of the grass-court events at Birmingham, Queen’s, and Eastbourne. Furthermore, comprehensive coverage of Wimbledon will be available across the BBC from July 3 to July 16.
