Crystal Palace has announced that Roy Hodgson will continue in his managerial role for the 2023-24 season, with an ambitious aim to secure an “upper half” spot in the standings.
In March, the 75-year-old came back to Palace, stepping in for Patrick Vieira until the conclusion of the past season.
Hodgson managed to guide the Selhurst Park team away from the relegation fray, achieving 18 points from his ten matches in command and securing the 11th spot in the Premier League.
Hodgson expressed his immense pride and satisfaction in continuing with Palace. He further emphasized the remarkable composition of the squad, saying, “We have a terrific mixture of promising youngsters and seasoned players with Premier League and international background.”
Hodgson had fruitful discussions with the chairman, Steve Parish, agreeing on the need to strive for excellence given the wealth of talent at their disposal. Consequently, they have set the lofty goal of an upper half finish. Hodgson strongly believes this is achievable with their extraordinary team and the undying support of their ardent fans.
After a four-year tenure with Palace, beginning in 2017, Hodgson took a brief respite from football in the summer of 2021.
In January 2022, he accepted the role of Watford’s manager, but left five months later following the team’s relegation to the Championship.
Before Hodgson’s triumphant return, Palace was on a 12-match winless streak under Vieira’s management.
With a managerial career spanning over 45 years, Hodgson has held key roles with Inter Milan, Blackburn Rovers, Fulham, Liverpool, and West Brom. He has also served as the national coach for Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, and Finland.
